The White Lion joins us for a drink
What an unforgettable week on Safari in the Kruger National Park, the highlight was undoubtedly being treated to the only known truly wild male white lion (sub adult) having a drink, his face bloodied and black after finishing off a Hippo carcass!
A once in a lifetime sighting shared with such an awesome family all the way from the United States
Here is another image which clearly shows his white coloration versus a tawny sibling.
He is “Leucistic” which is caused by a recessive allele, it is a condition in which there is partial loss of pigmentation resulting in white or patchy coloration of the skin, hair etc but not the eyes. Unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction in multiple types of pigment, not just melanin.
